Scholarships

Membership Scholarships

The mission of the Greenville Choral Society is to foster excellence in the art of choral singing and to provide music education, cultural enrichment and entertainment for its members and the community. In keeping with that mission, GCS is committed to providing musical opportunities to all potential members, regardless of their financial situation. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available to cover membership dues each season in the form of a credit (concert attire and music for the Concert Choir is not included). All applications must be submitted annually. All information is kept confidential and will only be shared with the GCS Scholarship Committee.
GCS Youth Scholarship Fund

Supported in part by the Eddie & Jo Allison Smith Family Foundation matching funds and established to make this exceptional musical experience available to as many students as possible.

This fund provides fifty percent of expenses for dues, music, miscellaneous expenses and other choir activities.

Rhonda Fleming Music Study Scholarship

In 2004, GCS established the Rhonda Fleming Music Study scholarship, to honor the Concert Choir’s long-time Director, Rhonda Fleming (see history). The $1,000 scholarship is presented each year to a deserving senior in the Youth Chorale that has demonstrated a commitment to the Youth Chorale, his/her high school, and the community, and plans to major in music in college.
Frank Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2021, the Frank Steinbeck Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of a 45-year GCS member, Frank Steinbeck.  At his passing, Frank’s family requested that individuals make contributions to GCS in his honor.  The Board of Directors used those funds to establish this annual scholarship for graduating Youth Choral members who were not planning to major in music but were planning to continue singing in their college choirs.
